In 1995, my "home theater" started with:
-
19" Emerson
TV
-
Pioneer Pro-Logic
receiver (analog)
-
Front left
and right loudspeakers (essentially stolen from my sister's no-name stereo system---thanks Mona)
-
Center speaker
taken from a different old no-name stereo
-
Surrounds
taken from my wife's boom box
-
2
old VCRs
-
No subwoofer
I've slowly upgraded
over the years to my current setup. Back in '95, I had no idea what I was venturing into, but it has turned into a great
rewarding hobby. As other men will attest, you've attained success when your wife actually praises your system.
This is known as the "wife factor".
As you can see,
my Home Theater is not a standalone, single-function theater. I admire those enthusiasts who have the time, money,
and sheer love of the craft to build a custom room for viewing films. The goal of my Home Theater, however, is
for it to be something that is used daily. This is the same TV on which we watch the local news, etc. But,
when you dim the lights, it instantly becomes a theater. Like many other home theater enthusiasts, I now prefer
to view films in my home as opposed to going to a cinema---the picture and sound are always perfect.
